Ian went on to become a member of a Project team, run by Andersens Consulting and was responsible for defining and implementing operational planning principles to the Phase One Ambient operation. Ian created and implemented a resource management toolset which resulted in reduction of site headcount by 135 FTE's and overall site productivity improvement of 13.5%

Through the success of this project Ian was asked to write a best practice on Planning & Productivity Management for adoption by all Wincanton warehouse operations.


Ian's Project Management and Operational Change Management skills & experience progressed with a move to Asda's warehouse in Wigan where he completed a number of projects based around stock management and headed a project team that delivered the change neccessary to the DC operations in order to support 24 hour store openings. The project that Ian delivered was adopted by Asda as a blue print for making the changes to their other DC's around the network.


In 2000 Ian began a 3 year spell at the Focus DC in Tamworth and helped to manage the operation through the changes in the Focus business through their transition fron Do-It-All to Focus and the acquisition of Great Mills and Wickes.

Ian was responsible for tactical opertaional planning (Warehouse & Transport) and implementetd planning and productivity practices which resulted in the site achieving 9.5% increase in overall perfomance and was also part of a KPMG project team which implemented WCSS WMS system.


Ian was responsible during this time for the management of the business development planning for a number of 3PL Open & Closed book contracts.


Ian left Wincanton in 2003 and worked as an independant Consultant, completing assignments & delivering solutions to Wyevale Garden Centres, UPS (Boots), Subway, Bargain Booze, National Trust and Oak Construction before joining Aquitec UK as a Business Consultant.


During employment with Aquitec UK (Later to become WCS) Ian was involved in the design and implementation of supply chain systems including WMS, Supply Chain Intelligence and Voice technology systems. Ian led an award winning implementation of WMS and voice at East of England co-op (2007 Effective IT Awards) and achieved a business impact award from Aquitec in 2006.


Ian created Supply Chain Network in 2010 in order to collect all the components of  supply chain optimisation in one space and  offer a service to the industry very focused on driving out unneccessary costs.

Ian began his career in Logistics in the Royal Air Force after leaving school in 1980.


After initial training at Swinderby and trade training in Hereford he found his first posting at Finningley in Doncaster (Now Robin Hood Airport). During the next five years Ian learnt his trade and further qualified in Air Movements which was put to test during the Falklands war when Ian was based at Ascension Island in the mid Atlantic, the main staging post for troops and freight destined for the Islands.


Following promotion and a new posting to Innsworth in Gloucester Ian left the Air Force due to family commitments and began a career in the private sector.


In 1990 Ian joined Glass Glover who were in start up phase for a new composite distribution centre for Tesco under a 3PL contract. In the next five years the site saw significant progress and Ian's career developed. Glass  Glover became part of Wincanton Logistics and the site became fully functional and highly efficient.

During this time Ian gained experience in Admin, stock and Operations as a Warehouse Manager responsible for very busy short life (Pick-By-line) and stock held operations.

During his career development within the Tesco operation Ian also acted as a TGWU shop steward, gaining much experience in HR & industrial relations.


After being made redundant Ian was asked to help at a new start up in Wellingborough for Kwik Save, initially managing the PI and forklift operation Ian became the Project Manager responsible for the start up of phase two, Chill and Freezer operations. Start up was achieved under Ian's direction on time, on budget and outperforming productivity targets within 6 weeks.

Recently Married and becoming a grandfather are two recent events which bring fullfilment to Ian's personal life.

Ian enjoys spending time with family and enjoys travelling to see and experience new places.

A keen golfer (18) but never enough time to play regularly Ian always aims to maintain work / life balance.
